In 2019 I started a little hobby of learning game development. My experience working in and around software development for years gave me the confidence to dive into this great unknown. I picked up a beginner friendly game engine Gamemaker Studio 2 and started learning from online tutorials. Before I knew it I had started on a full blown side project, Power of Ten.

This not-so-little side project gave me a creative outlet outside of the corporate world. I’ve had to expand my tool chest to include skills like coding, game design, animation, community building and most importantly how to ship software. Everything except for the music (Credit: Chris Inston) I’ve done myself.

Over two years I took this projects from a little prototype to a demo I released on itch.io all the way to an early access release on the popular distributor Steam.

I’m continuing to iterate and improve on the game and have built up a small community of players. This community provides me with feedback every time I ship a release and I can take that and figure out how to make the game even more enjoyable.
